In February 1957, the BBC nervously dipped its toe in the water and broadcast the first television variety show
aimed at teenagers – the 6.5 Special, produced by the visionary Jack Good.
The presenters (above) would quickly become household names:
personable disc jockey Pete Murray, one-time world light-heavyweight boxing champion Freddie Mills and former film starlet Josephine Douglas.
