A minor US hit in 1955, My Boy Flat Top was covered by both Frankie Vaughan and Bill Maynard – now better known throughout television soap-land as Claude Greengrass. (He dropped the ‘Flat Top’ soubriquet after about a fortnight.) Cutting Anglicised, BBC Radio-friendly versions of American hits was standard practice in the UK recording industry.
