A daguerreotype from the early 20th century? Not quite. In March 1953, when Ken Colyer arrived back in London, having been deported from New Orleans, he was embraced by Chris Barber’s New Orleans Jazz Band – which, in deference to Colyer’s experience and celebrity, became Ken Colyer’s Jazzmen. Left to right: Monty Sunshine, Lonnie Donegan, Ken Colyer, Ron Bowden, Chris Barber and Jim Bray.
Read all about them in ‘The Restless Generation’ by Pete Frame. (Photograph courtesy of Vic Gibbons.)
