Drawn to the coffee bars of central London, Long John Baldry was still a teenager when he began playing a 12-string guitar and singing the songs of his idol, Big Bill Broonzy. His father, a policeman, visited the Gyre & Gimble, to see where his errant son was spending his evenings, and was not amused by his throng of bohemian friends.
Read all about him in ‘The Restless Generation’ by Pete Frame.
