Charlie Gracie was an effervescent rock ‘n’ roll singer and guitarist from Philadelphia who toured Britain in summer 1957 on the heels of two hits, ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Fabulous’. His third, ‘Wanderin’ Eyes’, was already chart bound when he was promoted to headliner at the London Hippodrome, causing the lower-billed show-biz veteran Dorothy Squires to flounce out of the show in a huff. The order was changing.
